This latest version of the Barracuda Spyware Firewall increases organizations ability to block inappropriate Web sites by enhancing its content filtering functionality to include one of the most extensive Web site databases available today. With 57 categories of potentially high risk and productivity-inhibiting Web sites color-coded and categorized in the Web interface as typically blocked, not typically blocked, and neutral, administrators can easily determine which categories they wish to block by default and which groups they will allow users to access. For instance, an administrator may wish to block access to Web sites categorized as peer-to-peer sites, but allow users to view sites in the forums and newsgroups category.
Every organization has varying Internet search needs; what may be viewed as an inappropriate or non-productive Web site by one firm may be an essential research tool for another company, said Drako. It is important that the Barracuda Spyware Firewall allow customers to ultimately control how and where their Internet users spend time online. We have successfully accomplished this by incorporating the most extensive and intuitive Web content filtering features available.
As with spyware and virus definitions the Barracuda Spyware Firewalls extensive Web site database is updated hourly via Barracuda Energize Updates. In addition, a unique Content Filter Lookup feature allows the administrator to search the Barracuda Spyware Firewall database for a specific URL to determine if a particular Web site is included in the database. If the URL is not found, the administrator can easily submit it to Barracuda Central for classification and inclusion in the database.
Many customers choose to install several Barracuda Spyware Firewalls for redundancy and scalability. The new linked management capabilities allow administrators to easily and efficiently manage multiple Barracuda Spyware Firewalls in one user-friendly interface. This new feature gives administrators the power to define security rules, manage content filtering categories, and configure multiple Barracuda Spyware Firewalls at one time.
In addition, the Barracuda Spyware Firewall now includes the option of handling outgoing Web traffic in inline transparent mode. When the Barracuda Spyware Firewall is configured in inline transparent mode the client IP is exposed to the existing perimeter security device, typically a proxy or firewall, allowing preset outgoing Web communication rules to work as intended by the administrator.
Network infrastructures and policies differ from organization to organization, said Drako. These new features enhance our customers power to easily set up and manage the Barracuda Spyware Firewall in their unique network environment.
This latest version of the Barracuda Spyware Firewall will deploy automatically to all current customers this week at no additional charge. New customers will receive the new version out of the box.
