Swedish Police increases efficiency and security with RSA Security

RSA Security (NASDAQ: RSAS) today announced that the Swedish Police has chosen to implement the Xellerate provisioning solution to manage provisioning for over 22,000 employees all over Sweden. It will be integrated with existing RSA Certificate Manager and RSA ClearTrust products, which deliver digital certificate and web access management technology respectively.

The Xellerate Identity Management platform, developed by Thor Technologies, will form a key component of the organisations integrated identity and access management solution and is scheduled to be deployed by December 2005.

In the Swedish Police IT infrastructure there are hundreds of systems distributed on a national and local level. Each employee needs to access a variety of systems, which today requires different provisioning procedures. In the past this has resulted in an excessive administrative burden and had significant cost implications.

Manual provisioning procedures also have important security implications issues since there is more room for human error, either when registering a new user or when deleting an existing user from heterogeneous systems.

The Xellerate solution is designed to address these issues. It will provide the Swedish Police with a new and efficient platform, which together with a new administrative organisation will make provisioning a smoother and more centralised process. As part of the new organisation, a centralised authorisation centre will take over responsibilities for registration, up-keep and deletion of identities in the IT infrastructure.

Enabling and protecting identities and access
Per-Ola Sjswrd, IT strategist at the Swedish National Police Board, said: Protecting identities while delivering access to necessary information is becoming increasingly important for many organisations, particularly those wanting to enable smoother and more efficient management processes and defend critical data. We were looking for an identity and access management provider that is not only capable of addressing our specific needs, but that also provides technologies which can be deployed as part of a modular, integrated strategy. In RSA Security we believe we have found that.

Anders Fresk, project manager for the implementation at the Swedish Police, said: By implementing a provisioning solution with a single point-of-administration, we hope to substantially reduce the administration burden while increasing the service and security level. In the past, the provisioning process has been very time-consuming and new employees often have to wait for their identity to be registered. With the Xellerate solution, we will be able to completely restructure and streamline the provisioning process.

Powerful solution

Hkan Melin, Business Area Manager, RSA Security in Sweden, said: Demand for comprehensive and flexible identity and access management solutions is increasing and we are very pleased with the Swedish Polices choice to address their provisioning requirements through the Xellerate solution. This forms a key part of RSA Securitys identity and access management offering, and integrates with practically every other application on the market. Combined with web access management and digital certificate technology also provided by RSA Security we believe they have constructed a powerful and adaptable identity and access management solution that can be built upon in the future.

Organisations are increasingly turning to enterprise provisioning solutions with the aim of delivering operational efficiency and security as well as supporting regulatory and compliance initiatives. Xellerate Identity Manager is a comprehensive enterprise provisioning solution that helps organisations address user provisioning and lifecycle management requirements and is engineered to support complex, heterogeneous environments.
