27 October 2005 -- BLACKBERRY TO HOST FIRST WOMEN & TECHNOLOGY AWARDS

BlackBerry has joined with womens networking group Aurora, to launch the inaugural BlackBerry Women & Technology Awards 2005. The awards have been created to recognise excellence and celebrate women in the field of technology; women who are using technology effectively to help advance their company, organisation or own enterprise or career. The awards will be presented at an exclusive ceremony on Thursday 27th October 2005 at the Riverbank Plaza Hotel in London and will be hosted by leading presenter, Daisy Sampson.

Eight categories have been created to recognise contributions made by women in the corporate, public, SME and academic sectors. The awards will also acknowledge the best female technology journalist and role model. Organisations also have the opportunity to take home an award on the night with a category recognising the technology company most committed to advancing female talent.

Winners in each of the categories will receive a hand-blown glass trophy, a BlackBerry 7290 with a luxury leather Dunhill BlackBerry holder and six months airtime courtesy of O2. In addition, the overall 2005 Woman & Technology Award winner will be able to celebrate their award with a two-night stay at luxury London hotel, The Hempel.

Charmaine Eggberry, Vice President Enterprise Business Unit, EMEA, for Research In Motion, the company that makes BlackBerry, explained: Women are becoming more technologically proficient and aware of technologys benefits when used effectively within the workplace. The awards have been created to identify women and organisations that are utilising technology in an innovative and creative manner. We are looking for winners from all business sectors whether they are a small start-up company using technology with an entrepreneurial flair or a government organisation that has identified ways to streamline its communications. Fundamentally each of the winners will have grasped how technology can be maximised and tailored to benefit their work lives.

The judging panel is drawn from representatives of BlackBerry, Aurora, award sponsors, industry leaders and the business press. Award sponsors include O2 and HSBC.
