Data capture specialist Waveform Solutions and Hand Held Products, the worlds leading supplier of image-based data collection systems, have developed a solution that ensures compliance with new EU Track and Traceability Legislation. The two companies have developed a three stage solution for customers:
1. Understanding the legislation - The new EU Food Law (Regulation EU 178/2002) applies to all companies involved in the production, processing or distribution of food, drink or animal feed. It aims to ensure the complete traceability of food, drink and animal feed, and their ingredients.
2. Understanding the implications - Companies throughout the supply chain must be able to track the origins and destination of each consignment of food, drink or feed, using barcode labels. If an item is found to be unsafe, these details can then be easily traced.
3. Implementing a solution - Waveform and Hand Held Products have been working with Zebra Technologies (a leading manufacturer of thermal label printers) to develop a complete, one-stop system that ensures compliance with the new law.
They have developed a range of mobile and RF (Radio Frequency) solutions that provide full traceability of goods - from arrival through to processing and despatch. These solutions also improve stock accuracy, increase pick rates and reduce errors, and can be fully integrated with an ERP/back office system.
The system has already been successfully implemented by a number of leading food manufacturers and distributors throughout the Republic of Ireland.
