Viatel has announced the launch of Viatel Ethernet, a UK and international wide area network service. The service presents networking resellers, including LAN specialists and systems integrators with the opportunity to gain new revenue streams from a technology they already have experience of providing in the LAN.
Using the LAN standard which forms the foundation of current offerings from networking resellers, and is familiar to almost every business, Viatel Ethernet allows resellers to extend their service portfolio and provide an integrated IT and WAN service easily and cost effectively.
Viatel Ethernet offers Systems Integrators, LAN specialists, application service providers and storage service providers the opportunity to sell other services and applications on the back of the increased network performance that the service provides. For example, Viatel's any-to-any service is ideal for running bandwidth hungry applications such as CRM and ERP, and supports high capacity business continuity solutions including remote backup and storage.

With committed rates of 1Mbps up to Gigabit speeds and bandwidth increments of 1, 5, 10 and 100 Mbps depending on the subscribed rate, resellers can enable customers to change bandwidth capacity and network configuration as their business demands, making it easier for them to add sites and evolve their company network as well as providing customers with ongoing cost savings.
Viatel Ethernet is available UK wide and internationally, with points of presence in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany and the US. It forms part of a broad range of VPN, Internet access, hosting and security services that can be offered through Viatel's reseller channel.

Ethernet technology allows companies to connect their sites at speeds that have previously only been experienced in the LAN. The high capacity, flexible nature of Viatel Ethernet means that resellers' customers can now run their data, internet, voice and video applications on a single company network, helping to reduce costs through improved management and greater flexibility.
Ethernet has typically been used to replace leased lines as a point-to-point solution. Whilst this continues to deliver major benefits to companies, Viatel is taking advantage of Ethernet being incorporated into the WAN to deliver a broad range of connectivity options including point-to point, point-to-multipoint and its new innovative any-to-any service, which allows companies to locate IT resources wherever they need to without being restricted by the WAN.
