3PAR TRANSFORMS CENTRALISED DISASTER RECOVERY

3PAR, the leading provider of Utility Storage, announced today 3PAR Remote Copy with Many-to-One support as its newest product offering for simple, efficient, centralised disaster recovery. Using 3PAR Remote Copy and 3PAR InServ Storage Servers, customers can now substantially reduce the cost and complexity of deploying consolidated data replication. As a result of these cost savings, customers are now able to protect more applications within their existing budgets. These benefits are particularly relevant for service providers offering disaster recovery services or enterprises archiving data centrally from their regional data centres.

3PAR's centralised disaster recovery offering builds upon 3PAR Remote Copy, the simple, efficient, array-based data replication product that has been shipping since 2003. The latest release of Remote Copy features Many-to-One support. This new functionality allows remote data replication from several 3PAR InServ Storage Servers to a single, centralised InServ Storage Server located hundreds or thousands of miles away.

3PAR's centralised disaster recovery solution delivers significant value in five key areas:

- Simple administration: allows for rapid solution deployment.
Customers set up Remote Copy using a few simple commands and without complex command line semantics. Protracted and expensive consulting services are not required for installation and set-up. Installation is often completed in as little as two hours- versus weeks or months with traditional array technologies.

- Many-to-One support: substantially reduces the number of arrays required versus a matched-set approach.

- Thin Provisioning-aware: requires up to 75% less capacity at both the primary and target sites than competing solutions.

- Native IP-based: an affordable alternative to fibre channel-based solutions that require expensive IP converters and extenders for long-distance replication.

- Mixed workload support: allows replication and simultaneous production usage of the central-site array without requiring dedicated arrays.

"SAVVIS is leading the industry in providing end-to-end utility services and 3PAR's InServ Storage Servers are a key element in our technology platform," said Vincent DiMemmo, Senior Vice President of Global Product Management and Marketing at SAVVIS. "We worked closely with 3PAR to develop the Many-to-One Remote Copy feature and believe it will enhance our ability to offer powerful, cost-effective, and flexible utility services to our customer base of over 5,000 business clients."

"3PAR has made it incredibly simple to use our existing IP WAN infrastructure to deploy a reliable, native IP-based remote copy solution," said Paul Bryant, Head of Technology at Brevan Howard, a top European hedge fund management firm. "Our business depends on 3PAR Remote Copy and this new capability means we can protect more of our data at a lower cost."

"3PAR offers a Utility Storage array with a number of unique capabilities. Their customers are enthusiastic about the product and the support that the company has delivered," said Randy Kerns, Senior Partner of Evaluator Group. "This announcement adds an additional economic value to what was already a simple, flexible solution."

"We continue to seek out solutions that improve the efficiency of service providers and large enterprise organisations that have entrusted their businesses to 3PAR Utility Storage," said David Scott, President and CEO of 3PAR. "By dramatically reducing the cost to deploy disaster recovery solutions, 3PAR is enabling a whole new class of applications that can now be protected within existing budgets. This is an immeasurable benefit to our customers."

Many-to-One Remote Copy will be available in May 2005 with the release of 3PAR Remote Copy, version 2.2.
