MGE EXTENDS ITS SUPERVISION SOLUTIONS WITH ENTERPRISE POWER MANAGER

High availability power solution provider MGE UPS Systems has today announced the launch of Enterprise Power Manager, a new centralised UPS system supervision program. MGE UPS network cards and proxy agents (embedded Web server, SNMP compatibility) provide users with a wide range of remote UPS management functions including configuring shutdowns, programming actions to respond to events, predicting the time before total battery discharge when there is a power failure, generating alarms, and integration into network management systems such as HP Openview.

Darrell Smithson, Director of Sales for MGE comments, Effective electrical protection depends on proactive and reactive installation management. If a system only has a small number of UPSs, it is easy to supervise each one individually, in particular by accessing its embedded Web server. However, when there are more than three or four units, the task can rapidly become complicated for the administrator who also has to manage other network equipment.

Enterprise Power Manager is a new supervision application that enables managers to display the detailed status of all UPSs in a network using one single interface. They have direct access to this information, which they can present and organise as they wish, for example, type of UPS, location, operating status, and so on.

The new applications alarms are centralised and can be sent by e-mail or SMS, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. An event log enables the analysis of alarms to facilitate preventive management of the UPS network. uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and several levels of password (administrator, user, and so on) for complete security.

Enterprise Power Manager can locate automatically all the MGE UPSs integrated in the company's IP network by hardware (network card) or software (proxy agent). It can also be used to supervise non-MGE UPSs connected to the network using an interface with a standard UPS MIB.

The scope of Enterprise Power Manager has been extended to support MGE Power Distribution Units and Midspans PoEs, thus providing even more thorough remote supervision for network racks and servers.

Enterprise Power Manager is available in versions supporting 5, 50 or an unlimited number of UPSs. The 5 UPS version is available free of charge with each networking UPS, on the Solution Pac 2 CD-ROM or on MGE's website. It can be used to evaluate Enterprise Power Manager for a larger UPS group.
