MCE, the worldwide leading distributor for hard disk drives, today announced GStor Plus Storage Firewall, a new combined, hard disk based storage and security solution. GStor Plus is the first 80 GB hard drive with a special chip integrating a wide range of security functions. The solution, distributed by ExcelStor's exclusive European sales partner MCE, offers hardware based real-time data encryption and password protection, and several modes for fast backup and restore on protected disk areas. Due to the GStor Plus rollback function, PC users can reverse any data changes - e.g. in case of virus and hacker attacks or input errors - at any time and in just a few seconds. All features are running independently from operating and file systems - as well as multi-boot for up to three operating systems.
GStor Plus' hardware based data encryption effectively protects data against unauthorised access and manipulation: If a GStor Plus Storage Firewall is running in another PC (in case of theft), it is not possible to access the data without knowing the password. The data and password protection is based on a proprietary 64 Bit encryption algorhythm. The password is stored on the hard drive chip. It has to be typed in before accessing the operating system and can be changed at any time.
If the user is running an ExcelStor GStor Plus Storage Firewall in the so-called "RAM Mode", the solution is automatically deploying a defined "original status" after each system start. If he chooses for "Live Mode" operation, the user can manually start the solution's backup, restore and rollback functions at any time. A patented data mirroring technology offers all these features without long downtimes: e.g. in case of a virus attack, a recovery of the user's "original" operating system can be executed in Live Mode within just a few seconds. The possibility to re-establish any system status in case of need also enables risk-free software updates. Furthermore the "embedded" functions provide a high-level reliability as they are running independently from drivers, DLL's, operating and file systems.
