National Maritime Museum Cornwall chooses Epson's Intelligent Register (IR)

Epson's easy-to-use and highly-reliable Intelligent Register is at the heart of a new EPoS system, rolled out by the National Maritime Museum Cornwall, to manage various aspects of the popular tourist attraction. Based on LeisurePOS software from Glasgow-based Gamma Dataware, the system handles admissions, retail point of sale, corporate bookings, membership and stock control.

Welcoming 160,000 visitors a year since opening in 2002, the National Maritime Museum Cornwall is committed to conservation, research, education and entertainment and is home to a wide range of exhibits, books and archives. Housing a caf, retail shop and lecture theatre with state-of-the-art presentation facilities, the museum is a popular venue for corporate events and hospitality.

"With so many elements to address, the criteria for our new EPoS system was that it must be fully-integrated, reliable and enhance customer service," commented Peter Mason, head of trading at the National Maritime Museum Cornwall. "As a busy attraction with hundreds of visitors a day, we can't risk any kind of system downtime and so having complete confidence in a solution that would be up and running at all times is crucial."

To address their needs, Gamma LeisurePOS has been implemented throughout the museum's entire front of house and back office management systems. Software modules including Admissions, Retail PoS, Intex Payroll and ACCPAC Advantage Series Financial have been installed. In addition, a Ticketing and Gift Aid module has also been included, enabling transactions to be processed in compliance with the Inland Revenue's Gift Aid scheme, which, as a registered charity, is critical to the museum.

At the point of sale, Epson's intuitive touchscreen IR - with built-in fast and reliable TM-T88III receipt printers - allows transactions and admissions to be processed more quickly and enables on average, a cash sale to be completed in 20 seconds, with a credit card transaction taking around 35 seconds.

"The system's provided us with a totally seamless solution," concluded Peter Mason. "The software was especially adapted to meet our needs and the touchscreens are so simple and easy-to-use - in no time staff were fully proficient and therefore able to offer visitors an even better experience."
