Riso breaks the cost barrier for colour print with the Worlds Fastest full-colour printer for business

Riso (UK), the leading digital printer manufacturer, announces the launch of the HC5000, its next generation A3 full-colour inkjet printer. The HC5000 is the worlds fastest sheet-fed full-colour printer offering a print speed of up to 105 A4 pages per minute and a monthly duty cycle of up to 250,000 pages. At an unprecedented cost of less than 2.00 pence per full-colour A4 copy, for the first time ever, businesses will benefit from fast and affordable colour printing for everyday communications. With this launch, Riso has created a new market segment for colour print coined Communication Colour by the company.

This revolutionary product is ideal as a networked office printer or for central reprographics departments. The HC5000 will enable organisations to fully leverage the value of office software and enhance the impact and effectiveness of communications that have until now been printed in black and white. Key applications are everyday documents, manuals, training materials, newsletters, reports, proposals, spread sheets, presentations, stationery and invoices.

Richard Thompson, Managing Director, Riso (UK), said: The HC5000 represents our core values of high-volume, high-speed printing at an affordable cost. While there is no contention that colour enhances comprehension and provides greater document impact, it is perceived to be niche and expensive. We are making colour printing mainstream by offering the right price, right quality solution at a cost per page that competes with black and white printing costs. We are the only company that can offer colour printing at around one third the capital investment and running cost compared to similar conventional products, making it truly affordable. Our colour printing offering now takes us into a much bigger playing field and we have aggressive plans to continue to remain the dominant player in our target markets.

Malcolm Hancock, Principal Analyst, EMEA Printer and MFP Market, Gartner, added, The HC5000 is an exciting and unique product to be launched in the industry in a long time. There is a trend in the market today towards replacing monochrome printers with products that can output in both monochrome and colour, but Gartner research shows that the main barriers to the widespread adoption of colour in a business environment has been the high cost of acquisition, the cost of printing in colour on these devices, and limited productivity. We think initiatives such as this to reduce output costs whilst improving productivity will be welcomed by businesses of all kinds.

The HC5000 harnesses two new Riso proprietary technology platforms - FORCEJET and ComColor. FORCEJET technology is the engine that drives the HC5000, combining a powerful print engine, line inkjet system and high-speed paper feed system.

Risos ComColor, a breakthrough colour management system, makes the HC5000 simple to use and ensures the consistent reproduction of colour images, without the need for specialist skills for operating the printer.

Peter Fife, Managing Director, Astra Imprints, one of the first customers in the UK to beta test the HC5000, commented, We have been using the HC5000 since September last year. As a manufacturer of corporate Christmas cards, the printing of the insert for the cards is critical. The vast majority of our business is undertaken in a very short period of time - with no possibility of slipping deadlines - no one wants Christmas cards in January! We replaced a litho print system with the HC5000. This enabled us to speedily and cost-effectively print the personalised card inserts for our customers. Not only did we benefit from reduction in the set up time for jobs but the reliability of the HC5000 has been outstanding and has assisted greatly in achieving our customers deadlines.

The HC5000 has proved to be a valuable asset and after 300,000 prints, we are still awaiting our first paper jam!

The HC5000s architecture also includes a high-performance Adobe PostScript 3 controller that delivers speed and functionality to further expand the capabilities of the unit. The hard drive stores jobs and images and the powerful on-board processor ensures that all jobs, whether simple or complex, are handled with ease.

The HC5000 also features an optional A3 scanner and touch-screen enabling printing from hard copy originals.
