VERIFONE COLLABORATES WITH ASEC S.A. TO DELIVER NEW CONTACTLESS CARD APPLICATIONS

VeriFone Inc., the leading provider of electronic payment solutions, today announced that it is enabling new contactless card payment applications across Warsaw through the integration of a new MIFARE contactless reader into the best-selling Omni 3750 terminal. The M4V reader has been exclusively developed by ASEC S.A, the leading Polish producer of smart card systems, and is being incorporated into hundreds of Omni 3750 terminals across the Warsaw area.

The M4V internal reader module, based on Philips MIFARE contactless smart card technology, is being used in conjunction with the Omni 3750 terminals to deliver fast and secure transactions for a variety of applications, including the Warsaw City Card, a smart card used to pay for public parking and transportation services. Other value-added applications available on the new reader-enabled terminals include prepaid mobile phone top-up.

The Omni 3750 terminals are connected to a management centre through GSM and GPRS modems, so transaction data can be sent and authorised quickly and securely. 400,000 Warsaw City Card transactions are currently made in this way each month.

ASEC S.A. has also developed a card reader based on LEGIC card technology the L4V which works with VeriFone terminals to deliver similar types of applications.

Commenting on the partnership, Jerzy Fulara, President of ASEC S.A., said, We are delighted to be working with VeriFone to bring the benefits of our cutting-edge data transmission and RFID technologies to retailers and consumers through these new and exciting applications.

The Omni 3750 terminal has continued to widen the sales net and lower costs for retailers by providing a robust platform for value-added applications such as those enabled by the new M4V reader module, added Nigel Bidmead, EMEA Managing Director for VeriFone.

The Omni 3750 features a powerful 32-bit processor to meet the security and networking demands of Internet Protocol (IP) communications, and the toughest standards for EMV smartcards. It features up to 6MB of memory to support plenty of value-added applications. It supports advanced communications such as Ethernet, built on IP technology, which fuels always-on connectivity, and it has the power to securely send transactions over public or private networks using industry standard SSL encryption.

The Omni 3750 features a removable communications module that can be upgraded. Finally, Triple DES and PED security help stem the tide of fraudulent tactics such as card skimming, and the Omni 3750 supports the entire set of 3DES requirements, including 3DES Master Session and 3DES DUKPT.
