Canons new iR range enters next generation

Canon Europe, leader in digital imaging technology, has today released the details of its new generation of black and white iR devices. Four new products, namely the iR 2270, iR 2870, iR 3570 and iR 4570, come with a range of enhanced features and functionality built on the success of the iR range. This new product portfolio will replace the existing range of black and white MFPs, which have helped Canon maintain the number one position in the small to medium sized business market for the first half of 2004.

The iR range offers increased performance by enabling businesses to create, manage and distribute documents from one device. Information can be distributed through various digital means, including fax and email, ensuring workplace productivity is increased and costs are kept to a minimum. The new products also give businesses the opportunity to maximise their return on investment thanks to the JAVA-based MEAP (multifunctional embedded application platform), which enables Canon to create customised solutions to meet specific businesses requirements and adapt to the fast-changing customer needs.

The new iR range: compact and cost-effective
The latest iR product portfolio offers the first internal finishing on the market and integrates seamlessly within a customers existing network. This allows each MFP to become a complete, space saving communications hub that combines highly-secure, scan, print, copy, fax and distribution services, enabling organisations to manage documents from a single source at a controlled cost.

Chas Moloney, Marketing Manager, Canon Business Solutions says: In 2004 we undertook customer research across Europe to identify what decision makers considered fundamental when purchasing an MFP. Over 80% of respondents stated that alongside cost and ease of use, compact size was of high importance as more businesses look at ways to maximise office space. With a smaller footprint our MFPs now boast a world first, with our unique (optional) internal finisher with a hole punching facility. As a result, organisations can completely manage both electronic and hard-copy documents with ease from one space saving device.

Secure, fast, and network friendly
Security has also been improved on the device and on network connection through encryption, ensuring that all company information can be kept confidential through password protected mailboxes and secure PDF distribution.

The iR range also benefits from electronic document distribution, whereby documents can be scanned securely and sent to individuals at no additional cost. For those wanting to scan and access a document quickly and easily, there is a new searchable PDF feature using optical character recognition (OCR). This is vital when accessing a document using a document management solution.

Continued Moloney: The MFP is constantly evolving. Our devices are not solely about printing and copying, they are about ensuring secure, fast and diverse communications and integration with our customers business applications. With so many ways of sending information, it is important to build a device that is flexible and scalable therefore proving to be a solid long term investment for businesses.

The iR2270, iR2870, iR3570 and iR4570 will be available in the UK towards the end of 2004.
