The relatively slow progress in sales of Bluetooth-enabled devices since the technology went mainstream two years ago has led some industry observers to downplay Bluetooth's impact, and even in some cases to doubt its future in the short-range wireless device market.
But according to the special report by Context published this month, "Bluetooth, Future Trends and Opportunities in the Worldwide Market", the number of Bluetooth devices sold worldwide more than doubled from 65mn units in 2003 to over 150mn in 2004. What's more, says Context, sales of Bluetooth equipped products are set to double each year until 2006, and even after that double digit growth is expected to continue, with a global market size of 1.2bn products by 2009.
