Daeja Image Systems Ltd today announced that its world-leading java image viewer, ViewONE Pro, will now ship with support for the high-resolution JPEG2000 compression format as standard.
The JPEG2000 format is the next generation of the JPEG standard, and allows for visually lossless compression, at a much greater rate than exists with the original JPEG format.
With color imaging an important topic of discussion in both the commercial and consumer markets, thanks to the availability of high-end color scanners and megapixel digital cameras respectively, developing a new format to improve viewing resolutions and reduce file sizes, has been vital.
Thanks to the new functionality, ViewONE Pro will be able to take advantage of the new formats additional benefits. In addition to producing smaller files allowing faster download, JPEG2000 allows for multiple resolution previews to be stored within a single file, which ViewONE Pro can select in correlation to the users zoom ratio. This means that users of ViewONE Pro will be able to view substantially clearer images on-screen, at much higher zoom levels, than with existing standard image formats (including JPEG).
Whilst much of ViewONE Pros new functionality is being added within additional modules, Daeja felt that it was important that JPEG2000 viewing be supported in the main applet.
