Xiotech Corporation, the storage networking innovator, today announced a tiered storage offering featuring Economy Enterprise drives - a new category developed by Xiotech that delivers the robustness of Enterprise Fibre Channel at a significantly reduced cost. Xiotech also announced the availability of Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) drive capacity within Magnitude 3D. The tiered storage offering enables customers to mix and match Enterprise and Economy Fibre Channel drives, as well as SATA drives, seamlessly within the same storage cluster.
Xiotech's tiered storage offering enables organisations to select storage capacity type based on application performance and availability requirements, data value and overall cost of storage guidelines. By offering tiers of storage capacity, Xiotech is delivering the building blocks of Information Lifecycle Management. As a result, customers can optimise data readiness while lowering the cost of storage by migrating data from primary to secondary and tertiary storage based on factors such as cost, timeliness, business importance and compliance requirements.
For example, customers can deploy Magnitude 3D with Fibre Channel drives for critical data that requires optimum performance and accessibility. Economy Enterprise drives can be used for secondary/staged data that still requires ensured availability and Fibre Channel duty cycles, while SATA capacity can be used for "online archival" and long-term compliance at lower cost and performance. All three drives can be deployed in the same cluster to enable the seamless migration of data from one drive capacity to another as business requirements dictate.
"While SATA is an important component of any enterprise storage strategy, it may not be robust or reliable enough for critical data that is staging to secondary status yet still demands high availability," said Karl Schubert, CTO of Xiotech.
