Touch65/90(tm)Pro, the new CCD Contact Reader from Datalogic

Datalogic further strengthens its leading position in the European hand-held reader market with the introduction of the new Touch65/90(tm)Pro CCD contact reader, first in a new series of contact readers from Datalogic, which completes its offer for retail applications. It is an ideal entry level solution for all common retail and office automation contact reading applications in pharmacies, convenience stores, department stores, banks, insurance companies and public administration.

The Touch65/90(tm)Pro is one of the most compact-sized hand-held readers on the market, and comes with a five-year warranty, like all other cabled CCD hand held readers from Datalogic. Particular features of this reader include state-of-art decoding capability, a complete range of connection possibilities and enhanced architecture.

The contact reader is available with two different reading windows: 65mm and 90mm, and according to market standards it can read linear bar codes including the new RSS. New hardware enables the Touch65/90(tm)Pro to perform 256 scans/sec, and this together with the Puzzle Solver(tm) technology improves the reading capability of the reader in the case of damaged or badly printed codes. Puzzle Solver(tm) is a decoding technique introduced by Datalogic which collects partial data from successive scans and combines it to obtain complete information.

As with all the other new hand-held readers from Datalogic, the Touch65/90(tm)Pro is offered in the dark/light grey colour combination, according to new market standards. Additionally, all models come with a trigger which can be activated to be used in an "always-on" mode.

Datalogic has introduced Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) technology to the Touch65(tm)Pro EAS model. It has an integrated EAS antenna and an EAS cable for easy connection and compatibility with any EAS system, enabling cashiers to scan bar code labels and deactivate EAS tags in one smooth motion.

The Touch65/90(tm)Pro is provided with a full set of interfaces in a single model to guarantee connectivity to different host systems: USB, RS232, wedge and wand. Like all the latest generation of hand-held readers from Datalogic, when using the USB interface, three different communication protocols can be selected: USB KDB wedge emulation, USB COM emulation and USB IBMPOS.

For complete data management, the Touch65/90(tm)Pro is based on enhanced multi-standard architecture for built-in data formatting and editing. It can also be updated in-field to keep the device up-to-date. Its parameters can be configured either by means of bar codes or the new software release of DLSm@rtSet(tm) which is available free of charge from the Datalogic website.

Datalogic has also made it easier to integrate the reader in the point of sale with the new software tool "Datalogic for JavaPOS", compliant with the latest JavaPOS specifications (V 1.6), for connectivity with main cash registers (e.g. IBM, NCR, Wincor Nixdorf). This new software, available from the Datalogic website free-of-charge, helps manage POS applications better and provides additional application possibilities.
