ONSTOR QUALIFICATION WITH VERITAS REDUCES CRITICAL BACKUP AND RECOVERY TIME BY UP TO 90%

ONStor, the provider of scalable NAS solutions for multi-vendor storage, has announced that the ONStor SF4400 Series SAN Filer has been qualified with the latest release of VERITAS Software's enterprise data protection solution, VERITAS NetBackupTM 5.1 software. Comprehensive testing with VERITAS' high performance online backup and recovery solution demonstrated the capability for ONStor to reduce critical backup recovery time by up to 90 percent. This allows IT administrators to restore over a million files in minutes instead of hours, while deriving new value from their existing IT infrastructure.

As a VERITAS Enabled partner, ONStor's SAN Filer has been qualified to ensure the highest levels of reliability and interoperability with VERITAS NetBackup 4.5, 5.0 and 5.1 software. ONStor customers also benefit from the partnership with timely problem resolution from VERITAS and ONStor customer support teams. ONStor's qualification demonstrates the capability to recover a single file in seconds rather than hours to preserve critical information and help ensure regulatory compliance.

"Securing the VERITAS Enabled Program stamp of approval is a significant milestone in ONStor's ongoing commitment to support end-to-end interoperability for multi-vendor storage," said Peter Tarrant, vice president of marketing at ONStor. "Our open solutions provide real relief by simplifying management and eliminating the backup and restore window to fundamentally change the way companies manage and protect data across the storage network."

ONStor's SAN Filer eliminates the proliferation of costly storage islands by consolidating existing NAS devices into a centrally managed resource. This consolidation also enables continuous data availability and instant data restore. Most importantly, the SAN Filer allows companies to cost-effectively maximise their current storage investment giving them the flexibility to use their current SAN, or to directly connect to the storage device of their choice.

"As storage networks expand in size and complexity, the cost of storage management continues to escalate," said W. Curtis Preston, founder of consultancy firm The Storage Group. "ONStor has demonstrated interoperability with existing and new storage solutions to provide IT managers with the broadest choice of product offerings. This simplifies management and helps reduce the total cost of owning and deploying enterprise storage networks."

The VERITAS Enabled Program includes a wide range of cooperative activities such as access to application programming interfaces (APIs), engineering development, integrated testing and verification, and customer support. To verify interoperability with VERITAS' data protection, storage management, high availability and disaster recovery solutions, products from VERITAS Enabled partners undergo rigorous qualification.
