STORAGETEK AND SUN EXTEND COMMITMENT TO DELIVER AUTOMATED TAPE SOLUTIONS TO CUSTOMERS WORLDWIDE

At the customer-focused storage conference, Storage World, StorageTek (Storage Technology Corporation, NYSE:STK), the leading provider of enterprise information, lifecycle management, announced completion of a strategic OEM partnership agreement with Sun Microsystems. Under the agreement, Sun will market and sell StorageTeks StreamLine SL8500 under the StorEdge brand, as well as StorageTeks Powderhorn 9310 tape library, L-5500, L-700e and L-180 tape libraries.

The SL8500 is the first offering in StorageTeks next-generation StreamLine family of enterprise information lifecycle management solutions, providing unmatched consolidation capabilities, high availability, performance and scalability, while minimizing the footprint in the data center.

The agreement gives StorageTek more access to Suns 6,000-strong sales professionals and opens up new joint marketing and selling opportunities. For enterprise customers that require bullet-proof back up and recovery capabilities for mission-critical-data, StorageTek and Sun now have the opportunity to provide the ideal solution to address the consolidation of enterprise and midrange computing infrastructures. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
