Imation Expands Global Service Network With New European Technical Centre

Imation, a worldwide leader in removable data storage media, today expanded its global customer support network with the opening of a new European Technical Centre, located in Neuss, Germany. With this new technical centre, Imation can help customers across Europe optimise their current storage investments and address important customer questions about technology, applications, media care and handling, and data protection.

"The addition of this technical centre strengthens our global position as the removable data storage media leader at a time when our global customer base is seeing a dramatic growth in the amount of data they need to protect, manage and store," said Frank Russomanno, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Imation Corp. "By leveraging our 50 years of industry experience, recognised technology leadership, broad product portfolio, worldwide distribution capabilities, and global presence, Imation has the capacity to deliver a higher level of technical service and support - helping our customers and partners around the world maximise their overall storage investments."

Industry research indicates that the amount of data generated and managed around the world doubles every 18 to 24 months, and is happening even faster in some parts of the world. This explosive growth in the amount of data is reflected in the increased IT spending around the world.

Combining comprehensive testing equipment and service resources, each Imation regional technical centre provides advanced technical services and support for removable data storage media technologies. The primary focus is to help customers maintain high performance and smooth operation in tape storage systems, while offering support and testing systems for recordable optical media products. Each centre offers services tailored to the needs of its market and geographic region. For example, the European Technical Centre conducts product testing for the CE certification in the European market.

"The new Imation Regional Technical Centres provide a deeper layer of technical support to quickly assess and get to the root of performance issues in a customer's overall removable data storage media system, whether the issue is the drive, software, automation or media," added Russomanno.

The centres are equipped with a full array of testing and evaluation facilities for a variety of tape drive systems, such as IBM 3590B/3590E/3590H tape drives, StorageTek 9840/9940 PDE/EPT tape drives, LTO-1/LTO-2 tape drives, Tandberg Data SLR series tape drives, and Exabyte VXA tape drives, as well as testing systems for recordable CD and DVD products.

Imation's technical services can be divided into three categories:

* Storage media support - storage media analysis, diagnosis on causes of data loss, data recovery, and recommendations on improving media care, handling and administration.

* Application support and user training - analysis of error causes, assessment of the environment's impact on storage equipment, and resolution of drive and media issues.

* Advisory services - consultation to help customers choose the right tape storage system and increase capacity utilisation.
