Avnet Technology Solutions, the global IT solutions distributor  and an operating group of Avnet, Inc., has announced its HealthPath University will be held at the home of the British Medical Association, BMA House in London, on Thursday 5 June 2014. The keynote speaker at the event will be renowned healthcare informatics executive Charles Lilley.  Delegates will learn what is driving the IT agenda in healthcare organisations and hear from analyst IDC and leading technology suppliers to the sector.

Frank Bennett, SolutionsPath lead, Avnet Technology Solutions, UK explained, "The financial squeeze on health services gets tighter every year and the Institute of Fiscal Studies predicts spending per person is likely to fall in coming years even if budgets remain protected. The pressure is on to deliver smarter healthcare and greater productivity for less.  Technology is the key to operational efficiencies and this latest Avnet HealthPath University is an opportunity for business partners to hear from those within the industry. The University will cover the challenges and opportunities facing healthcare organisations and where budgets are likely to be spent now and in the future to meet demand for services."

Highlights include the latest research from IDC on the drivers of IT spend and the priorities for deployment of IT in the health sector.  There will be a presentation from Charles Lilley, chairman of Genio Health & Life Sciences Ltd and HealthSystems Consultants Ltd, whose career spans 40 years in healthcare and IT systems.  According to Charles Lilley, "The wider health economy relies on partnerships, for example organisations, patient groups and clinicians working together. Avnet's HealthPath™ University is an ideal opportunity for technology providers to continue this collaboration to better understand the healthcare market and its requirements."

Speakers from IBM, HP, VMware and CommVault will cover the key technology areas affecting healthcare, including mobile technology projects, data analysis to support decision-making and the security of sensitive data.

Frank Bennett concluded, "Avnet's HealthPath University provides a different perspective by educating business partners how to work with customers to solve efficiency and productivity challenges.  With indications that the NHS is unsustainable under current budgets and demands this is the perfect opportunity for the IT channel to work together with health professionals to provide smarter delivery of health services enabled by technology."
