Eaton showcases award-winning power management software

Power management company Eaton has announced it will be using VMworld 2013 in Barcelona to showcase a new version of its highly regarded Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) software, the current version of which won the "Best of VMworld 2013" Gold Award in the Virtualization Management category and Best of Show at VMworld in San Francisco, which was held in August.

Eaton will also be presenting key strategies to help information technology (IT) and data centre managers maximise the benefits of virtualisation, and discussing the findings of its VMware Forum surveys. These include the revelation that even in today's virtualised environments it is still a common perception that the primary function of a UPS is to act as a battery back-up in the event of a mains electricity supply failure.

Eaton's IPM, which was the first power management software to integrate fully with the VMware® vCenter™ dashboard and to achieve VMware Ready™ certification, was described by the award judges in San Francisco as "invaluable when a power outage strikes, thanks to its predictive fallover, load-shifting and VM-prioritisation capabilities".

The new 1.40 version of IPM builds on the proven strengths of the existing software and adds important features that include full compatibility with VMware ESXi 5.5 and vCenter 5.5, and also support for Cisco UCS Manager, which allows IPM to cap power usage in Cisco-based converged systems.
