Bitdefender, provider of antivirus solutions, has launched a new security solution to enhance protection for Mac users worldwide. The New Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac provides a fast scanning engine developed especially for OS X. The Virus Scanner Plus is also available on the Mac App Store, where it was integrated as the first security app capable of "continuous scanning" and providing an extra security layer for Mac users.
"In recent years, we saw a massive increase of cyber-attacks targeting the OS X system and a more violent dissemination than before," states Catalin Cosoi, Chief Security Strategist at Bitdefender. "Flashback, for instance, managed to infect more machines than the most aggressive virus did on Windows. More than 600,000 users have allegedly been infected with the Flashback malware."
The Mac antivirus also incorporates TrafficLight, an application that filters web traffic and blocks access to malicious websites and phishing attacks threatening Apple computers.
The scanning technology of the New Antivirus for Mac is said to eliminate excessive system impact, only verifying new or modified files, and intervening just as needed. The app also integrates alerts into the notification system of the operating system, so they are less intrusive and more familiar to Mac users.
