Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) 8Ci

The Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) 8Ci is a small, thin and easy-to-use 1D barcode scanner optimised for smartphones. The first scanner in the new CHS Series 8 product line, the CHS 8Ci can be attached to a smartphone with the optional Klip Case (sold separately) to provide a one-handed scanning solution. When not in use, it can be detached from your phone and slips easily into a shirt or pants pocket.

Weighing only 1.7 oz (48 g), the CHS 8Ci is the lightest Bluetooth barcode scanner on the market that can be attached to a smartphone in a "sled type" solution. The CHS 8Ci can be used with different devices of varying shapes and sizes (even tablets) and can be used either attached or detached from the host device. Users can even add a lanyard or belt clip for a wearable solution that is convenient to access at all times.

As small as a credit card, the CHS 8Ci connects wirelessly via Bluetooth to a broad range of Apple, Android, and Windows devices. It has been certified by Apple for the iPad, iPad mini, iPhone and iPod touch.

Availability

The CHS 8Ci will be available through Socket's distribution channel in late Q3 2013.

How does the CHS 8Ci compare with the CHS 7Ci?

The CHS 8Ci has a flat shape and is smaller, thinner, and lighter than the CHS 7Ci and thus easier to fit into a shirt or pants pocket. Additionally, the CHS 8Ci can be attached to a smartphone or other device with the optional Klip Case, while the CHS 7Ci cannot. Otherwise, they have the same key hardware features, use the same software and SDK and have the same scanning performance, behavior and user experience. The CHS 8Ci is compatible with any applications used with the CHS 7Ci.

*Most smartphones and tablets have Class 2 Bluetooth and thus support a 33 ft (10 m) connection range with Class 1 devices such as the CHS Series 7.

Key Selling Points

The CHS 8Ci can be sold into applications where it is important to have a small, lightweight scanner and/or where a one- handed scanning solution is required.  Moreover the CHS 8Ci gives Developers a migration path for their CHS Series 7 scanner applications to market segments with demand for a smaller, lighter and/or one-handed solution, including retail point of sale, inventory management, sales order entry, field service, etc. Any applications used with the CHS Series 7 can also be used with the CHS Series 8.
