Bitdefender, the provider of antivirus solutions, emerged victorious for a seventh time in trials against other security software by independent testing organisation AV-TEST.

Bitdefender remained firmly at the top of the antivirus industry through testing in May and June of Internet Security 2012 against 24 other products. Bitdefender scored 17 points of a possible 18.

Bitdefender, which also won AV-TEST's prestigious Best Protection 2011 Award, scored a perfect 6 points in the Repair category, measuring the software's performance cleaning and repairing infected computers. In both the Protection and Usability categories, the product scored a near-perfect 5.5.

"The latest AV-TEST trials conclude an overwhelmingly positive year full of awards and praise for Bitdefender 2012 products," said Viorel Canja, head of Bitdefender Labs. "This has given us even greater drive to enhance our line for the freshly launched 2013 generation. I'm eagerly awaiting new tests."

Besides Bitdefender, AV-TEST evaluated other products including Kaspersky Internet Security 2012, Microsoft's Security Essentials 4.0, McAfee Total Protection 2012, Symantec's Norton Internet Security, AVG's Internet Security 2012, and others.

AV-TEST CEO Andreas Marx said: "Bitdefender performed exceedingly well in testing throughout the past year on its 2012 product line. Our team is eager to start reviewing Bitdefender's 2013 generation in the new rounds of rigorous testing. Our eyes will be closely focused on Bitdefender in coming rounds."

AV-TEST Institute, based in Magdeburg, Germany, is a security software analysis firm recognised as an authority by the global antivirus industry.
