ScanSource Europe, the value-added distributor of auto ID, barcoding and POS products, has launched its first Google Android based app with Motorola Solutions. The app, free-to-download from Google Play, is essentially a catalogue of all Motorola products available from ScanSource Europe, as well as a dashboard for all ScanSource and Motorola tools, that was created for the reseller on the move.

The app is designed to be used on all Android devices, including Motorola's first enterprise-focused Android device, the ET1, which is available at ScanSource Europe. The ET1 features a 7-inch touch display, 1 GB RAM with 4 GB flash memory built in and comes with a 4 GB micro SD card. The device runs a version of Android 2.3.4 fortified with features that deliver enterprise-class security, flexibility and manageability, meaning users get the same sleek design and ease of use common in consumer tablets, with the durability required for all-day business use.

With the demand for mobility quickly on the rise, ScanSource is looking to help mobile partners who want to view or display to customers product information, descriptions and related documents at any time of day, even when they do not have a data connection at their disposal. In this way, the app complements the existing ScanSource Europe-Motorola microsite accessible at www.scansource.eu/motorola.

"It's an extremely convenient tool to have for resellers who are using Android devices already or plan to invest in the ET1," said Bert Fonderie, Vice President Merchandising, ScanSource Europe. "Using this app in combination with the ET1 at a customer's premises, for example, would eliminate the need for the reseller to print out product information or carry a printed catalogue with them while demoing the ET1 and give them easy access to the wide range of online resources ScanSource and Motorola provide. They can also contact ScanSource via the app so they can order the products they need from wherever they may be."

According to Marco Landi, Corporate VP EMEA Channels for Motorola Solutions, "I am delighted that ScanSource Europe has grabbed the opportunity and developed this ground breaking electronic catalogue app for their partner network. The launch of the ET1 marks an extremely important milestone for Motorola Solutions and it is great to see that the innovative spirit exemplified by the ET1 has been picked up and is being built on by our distributors and partners."
