Mobexx has extended its 7-inch tablet computer range with the new ARMOR X7 compact rugged tablet computer from DRS Tactical Systems, Inc., a business unit of DRS Technologies, Inc. Designed and engineered to operate reliably in extreme environments, this fully rugged tablet is manufactured to military standards. It is certified to MIL-STD-810F/G for extremes in temperature, vibration, shock, and drops, and it has an ingress protection (IP) rating of 65 for being fully sealed from dust and highly resistant to moisture. An ATEX-certified version is available for use in explosive atmospheres.

The Windows 7 tablet PC is ideal for mobile workers in highly portable applications needing a lightweight but extremely tough portable computer with a superb sunlight-readable display. Its exclusive bonded screen with anti-glare/anti-reflective coatings and a polarizer enables viewing in direct sunlight. The dual mode standard LCD supports both touch and pen input. The 7-inch format is ideal for situations where a smaller display is required for ease-of-use in portable applications.

Using its unique FlexSpace expansion bay, the ARMOR X7 can be customised to support a customer's unique but required functionality. It has a magnesium alloy frame encased in rugged polycarbonate and rubber overmoulded casing, offers durability in a lightweight form factor. It features special ports that are sealed without the need for covers or flaps. The combination of a power-efficient Intel Atom N450 1.6 GHz processor and dual hot-swappable batteries enable the device to be used for up to eight hours, which makes it suitable for a full shift without needing to recharge.

The rugged tablet PC features a range of connectivity options, including Bluetooth wireless, integrated GPS, and 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi. Integrated Gobi WWAN mobile broadband radio keep the user connected. Other integrated features include a digital camera, a fingerprint scanner, and the ability to switch to external antennas via the vehicle docking station. Mass data storage is provided by a 32GB solid-state hard drive with an option for a 80GB high performance Intel solid-state hard drive that is user-replaceable. A built-in SD/SDHC reader allows further expansion and quick data transfer.

"The ARMOR X7 is an exceptionally well designed and made device. It is a high-grade 7-inch tablet PC, ideal for use in demanding and specialised applications requiring custom functionality and very harsh environments. Customers will benefit from its ingenious screen technology that allows it to be used under varying light conditions even in strong sunlight: other manufacturers claim wonders about their screens, but this is the best we've seen so far," says Mark Dale-Lace, Director, Mobexx.
