NextiraOne has announced the signing of an agreement with the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wroclaw for the construction of a metropolitan area network (MAN) for the Wroclaw police force. NextiraOne experts will design a solution to deliver, implement and launch the system in 20 police facilities, conduct training for its users and provide a maintenance service.

The new high-performance MAN network will serve as a communications platform for all central police IT systems currently available within the Police Data Transmission Network. All equipment will be fully functional and compatible with the OST 112 infrastructure (the Polish nation-wide service activities for emergency telephone number 112).

This is one of a number of major public sector projects delivered in Poland by NextiraOne. The company has worked with the Polish Border Guard since 2003, delivering IP Telephony for over 300 border guard posts. Last year NextiraOne implemented an innovative solution for the guard posts along Poland's Eastern borders, combining VoWLAN communications, WiFi mesh technology and video surveillance.

As part of the Wroclaw Police project implementation, NextiraOne teams will implement the system in around 20 police units across the city, migrating the network and management services in the Police Data Transmission Network to a new platform in order to create a new network infrastructure. NextiraOne will also implement an MPLS-based security policy for the network and management system. This will allow monitoring of both the network and individual devices, supervision of its performance and availability as well as rapid detection and prevention of accidents.

The network will be based on Cisco products and solutions including Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers with 1 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s interfaces for the construction of framework nodes working on MPLS technology. Smaller units will be equipped with Cisco ME 3600X Series Ethernet Access Switches. The entire network will be configured and managed via the homogeneous CiscoWorks LAN Management Solution (LMS) system with Health and Utility Monitoring module.
