Coop Estense supermarket Nuovo Doro in Ferrara chose Datalogic Mobile EBS's Joya pod to give its members and customers the opportunity to shop in a new, fun, fast and interactive way. With 55 outlets including supermarkets, hypermarkets and minimarkets, Coop Estense is one of the major consumer cooperatives (the third for its turnover) of the Coop group, a major player in modern distribution in Italy.

The 180 Joyas delivered to the store of 2000 square meters, with 8 standard counters and 4 kiosks for automatic payment, are integrated with TPiShop software from Wincor Nixdorf, a consulting firm and developer of technologies for banking and retail sectors. TPiShop is a platform that facilitates purchases by means of portable devices, due to a series of functions like communication, localization and delivery of multimedia content.

The positive partnership among Datalogic, Coop and Wincor Nixdorf is the basis of Salvatempo service, in service since 21 June. It has been already widely appreciated by customers and shareholders which are happy and intrigued by this new way of shopping: dynamic and modern modality that allows the customers to get more involved and aware in the purchasing process and to be closer to their needs, increasing the propensity to purchase and the average receipt value.

"We especially liked Joya's versatility and the ease with which the TPiShop application we have previously chosen, was revived on this new terminal," said Katia Lucchesi, Dir ITC Este. "We are confident that the satisfaction will be confirmed by our Members who traditionally are loyal users of this self-scanning tool. With this choice Coop Estense reiterates its focus on technologies that make shopping in their stores simple, pleasant and fast."

Joya, which has been successfully deployed in the supermarkets of other cooperatives (Unicoop Florence, Coop Adriatica Coop Lombardia, Coop Liguria), enables customers to easily read barcodes of the various products placing them directly in the shopping trolley, to display the price, the number of purchases, any promotions or discounts on the product, the balance of loyalty points and the total amount of the purchase, reducing, in this way, waiting time at checkout.

This is the result of Datalogic Mobile business strategies that provide the possibility for retailers to use Joya Shopevolution together with the complete solution or integrated with other company's self-scanning, to ensure maximum flexibility in creating the ideal solution for its customers.

Gianmario Bianchessi, Wincor Nixdorf Retail Marketing Manager Italy, commented: "The widespread and deeply felt need for innovative technologies that make shopping faster, more instructive and enjoyable is the basis of this successful partnership with Datalogic and Coop. Again, the software developed by Wincor Nixdorf confirms itself as the ideal engine for the introduction of mobile shopping in stores that want to improve the shopping experience of their customers."

"The success of the Salvatempo project at Coop Estense reinforces the partnership between Datalogic and Wincor Nixdorf. Confirming that the new self-shopping strategy of Datalogic meets the needs of the market", said Luigi Frison, Business Development and Marketing Manager at Datalogic Mobile. "Shopevolution and Joya, in fact, meet the requests of retailers who want to have a complete self-shopping solution (Shopevolution) as well as retailers who consider Joya the ideal pod integrated with the solutions of business partners."
