Computer Hardware Design (CHD) has added a new mobile computer to its range of handheld devices. The CHD SiX is designed for retail, warehousing and logistics applications where maximum performance and durability is required from a compact handheld device.
Highly ruggedised and user-tested in the field, the CHD SiX is also lightweight and ergonomic in order to reduce stress and fatigue levels during long hours of operation. The CHD SiXs back case is shaped to comfortably accommodate any hand size to ensure it is easy to hold and operate, while side scan buttons on both sides of the device are positioned to ensure optimum comfort.
High productivity levels
Most frequently used buttons are arranged so that they can be easily reached with the users thumb in order to make input as easy and comfortable as possible, even after prolonged periods of work. A hand strap and stylus are also provided. Both the terminals scan engines feature an approximate 30 degree downward facing angle to provide additional user comfort and aid higher scanning productivity levels, whether in retail stores, on loading docks or on delivery routes.
CHD SiX features a 2.8 240x320px QVGA LCD touch screen display that is said to offer full visibility even in bright sunlight. CHD reports that the devices adjustable backlight ensures clear readability in all ambient light situations. Features also include Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 powered with an Intel X-Scale PXA300 624MHz processor and a large onboard memory capacity (up to 256Mb). A user-accessible MicroSD card slot enables quick and easy access to memory expansion for data storage or backups.
Secure and instant communications
CHD SiXs wireless communication capabilities WLAN (IEEE 802.11b/g) and Bluetooth (IEEE 802.15) provide stable, secure and instant communications for online applications and data exchange. A model with GSM/GPRS will also be available. In addition, the devices 1D laser scanner or 2D imager provides clear readings of almost all standard barcodes, even in poor lighting conditions.
CHD SiXs battery is claimed to last for a full work shift and, if the prolonged duration of operation is required, an easily removable battery cover provides easy access to the battery for switching. For additional comfort and longer working shifts, CHD offers batteries with extended capacity. A 4-slot battery charger provides easy battery charging and management whereas a vehicle charger provides maximum mobility. A full list of accessories is available from CHD.
The mobile terminal is protected with industry grade protection against dust, moisture and accidental drops. As a result, this IP64 rated device is said to be able to withstand multiple 1.5m drops. It is also said to have a high operating temperature range (-10degC to 60degC), while CHD reports that the devices highly resistant outer casing makes the handheld suitable for indoor and outdoor use in almost any user environment. The CHD SiX is suitable for industrial applications in retail, transportation and logistics.
