Bristol based Opaltec International, leaders in the provision of mobile computing, barcode and point of sale solutions, have become one of the first companies in their field to obtain ISO 9001 registration through Intertek, the worldwide electrical goods accreditation agency.

Operations Director Clive Hamilton-Davies set the ball rolling six months ago when his Board of Directors decided to apply for registration. He contacted the Chartered Quality Institute who put him in contact with an experienced Quality Consultant to help with implementation and training.

Clive comments; We were confident that we were providing a good service, but the work involved during the implementation highlighted areas where the Business was able to make further improvements.

Opaltec was already a customer-orientated organisation and Sales Director David Whatley has been encouraged by the favourable response from customer surveys carried out as part of the ISO 9001 requirements. The positive feedback that we have received confirms how strong our Customer Care is, and by using the constructive comments from our customers, we are already tweaking a few of our internal processes and procedures to further increase efficiency.

Workshop Manager Martin Purnell was impressed at the improvements gained from additional documentation; Going for registration gave us the impetus to produce clear, concise, comprehensive fault finding and repair manuals this means that we have standardised methods and reduced training times.

This will not be the end of the story as far as Opaltec is concerned; the Management are pro-active in seeking to improve systems even further.

Consistently improving the service that Opaltec provides is a keystone to the companys success.
