Handheld PCs has scooped the 2007 Channel Network Award for Innovative New Application with its unique hand-e-pix solution, installed at Worthing Borough Council.

The award, presented in the reseller category, recognises the best possible solution to a customer issue where a real understanding of needs is met by an imaginative use of technologies.

hand-e-pix, a unique new solution, uses proven technology from the very latest SmartPhones, such as O2s Xda Orbit and BlackBerrys latest 8310 Curve, to collect a powerful combination of photographic evidence; GPS Location; free text and additional data such as date and time. Using a Global Positioning System (satellite) fix to plot location, at the time a picture is taken, a web based database application is updated in real time via GPRS. This makes the data available to authorised staff from any site home, remote office or whilst travelling. hand-e-pix can also be integrated with core business applications, such as CRM and ERP systems.

For its entry, Handheld PCs put forward Worthing Borough Council (WBC), which was looking to increase the efficiency of graffiti removal in its area by reducing the time spent manually producing site records and investigation reports. hand-e-pix has enabled the graffiti cleaners to combine photographic evidence with GPS location and automatically provides key information in real time. Handheld PCs management of the system ensured fast and reliable results and Worthing is now looking to expand the project to increase the types of information gathered and extend its use to tackle other forms of street crime.

Darren Hilton, Managing Director of Handheld PCs, received the award, and he comments, This award recognises all of our team for excellence and I am delighted to have accepted it on behalf of the company. We have developed a product in hand-e-pix that we believe delivers immediate and tangible business benefits. To have won such a prestigious award means that this belief is well founded and significantly raises the profile of both hand-e-pix and Handheld PCs.

Colin Hunt, Worthing Borough Councils Street Scene Officer, also commented, I am very pleased for Handheld PCs that they have picked up this award. We were more than happy to put forward our own application as the entry because hand-e-pix has delivered an excellent solution for us that is also able to grow with our on-going requirements. In addition to the product, Handheld PCs has also delivered very good support and are working closely with us to move the application into new and important areas.
