Extech Instruments new printer, the Andes 3, specifically designed for harsh outdoor environments, has achieved the Ingress Protection Ratings for dust and water resistance rating (IP54). The European Committee for Electro Technical Standardization developed the Ingress Protection (IP) ratings described in IEC/EN 60529.

The numbers specify the environmental protection an enclosure provides; the IP rating typically has two numbers: the first demonstrates protection from solid objects or materials and the second protection from liquids. With our IP 54 rating, 5 describes the level of protection from solid objects (protected against dust limited ingress with no harmful deposit) and 4 describes the level of protection from liquids (protection against water sprayed from all directions - limited ingress permitted).

The Andes 3 achieved this rating with out the need for an auxiliary environmental case. Issuing invoices, receipts (with or without payment processing), estimates, orders and penalties and other applications often requires the user to be outdoors for long periods of time. The Andes 3 is a resilient and lightweight printer that withstands the typical demands found in these types of Ticketing, Field Service, Field Sales and Public Safety applications. All Extechs printers offer reliable field trusted performance with outstanding print output, including logos, forms, barcodes and other graphic elements. Tony Revis, General Manager of the Portable Printing Division of Extech, said, In each category of portable printer (2, 3 and 4) Extechs printers are amongst the smallest and lightest and we demonstrate that we are the supplier that provides the durability required in demanding field mobile environments. Additionally an included shoulder strap or belt loop system makes wearing the printer easy for users even for those working long shifts. Extechs full one year warranty, including the print-head, gives our customers the promise that we go beyond just the certification. The Andes 3 is also certified under the CB scheme for emissions and immunity as well as for safety under the requirements of IEC 60950.
