Lumison Completes 1m Upgrade to Edinburgh Datacentre Facility

Lumison, one of the UK's leading business-class ISPs, announces the recent completion of a further 1m investment in the Newbridge facility on the outskirts of Edinburgh (UK).

Reflecting the continued growth in demand for datacentre services, from managed web application hosting to large-scale IT infrastructure co-location, Lumison have upgraded their power infrastructure within the facility to Tier IV standards. In addition, fit out of the existing shell space has continued apace with the new datarooms accommodating a power and cooling capacity of anything from 2kW to 6kW without breaking a sweat.

"The new 2 Megawatt transformer, upgraded A+B switchrooms, UPS systems and N+N standby generators are the nuts and bolts our customers expect and rely on" said Aydin Kurt-Elli, Lumison CEO. He added, "Having delivered the upgrade on time, and delivered with zero downtime for our existing customers only increases confidence in our ability to build and manage datacentre infrastructure for the SME and Corporate markets."

Many datacentre operators are finding it difficult to support higher power and cooling densities that are proving to be problematic with the advent of blade computing and application consolidation. With this in mind, Lumison continue to implement an incremental approach to outfitting, coupled with an ownership model that puts the focus firmly on future-proofing. Delivering datarooms to the higher specification required by todays market has had no operational effect on existing customers, or the provision of services that new server infrastructures rely upon.

Working hard to reduce the environmental impact of the company, Lumison purchases all power consumed by the datacentre from Green tariffs, ensuring continued investment in renewable energy sources. Lumison are also proud to implement AmbiCool HVAC systems for closed control cooling of their datarooms, providing 20% energy efficiency on traditional split cooling systems. This reduces the carbon footprint of the Lumison datacentre in absolute terms, compared to the offsetting schemes most ISPs and network operators rely upon.
