Turn fixed position data capture equipment into fully mobile workstations with the new UnICart, from Unique ID

Automated data capture and mobile computing specialist, Unique ID, has come up with a novel and affordable way of transforming desk-bound IT equipment used in warehouses and distribution centres, into fully mobile workstations the UnICart.

The UnICart is a fully-powered, wheeled trolley onto which a PC processor, LCD monitor, keypad, barcode scanner and desktop printer can be securely fixed enabling the user to take the UnICart to the point of activity.

Its fixed and rotating rubber wheels are designed for maximum stability and manoeuvrability in even the narrowest of warehouse isles, and its steel construction and rugged build quality make it suitable for the harshest working environments.  And with a price tag that starts at less than a typical hand held mobile printing solution, its an affordable solution.

The UnICart delivers significant productivity benefits over fixed position data capture solutions.  Inbound and outbound products can be received, inspected, recorded, labelled and re-routed at the point of activity, all using the same workstation and eliminating the need for multiple workstations.  The UnICart is perfect for tasks such as inventory checks, product labelling and packaging, and quality control monitoring.  It has a storage area for small items, making it ideal for picking and packing operations.  It eliminates the need for products to be handled multiple times, reducing the chance of damage or loss, and because users make less journeys to carry out their tasks, productivity is improved and the time taken to perform tasks is reduced.  Users of the UnICart will typically see a return on investment in as little as 7 months.

The UnICart is powered by a single 100Ah 12 vdc sealed Lead Acid battery, providing power for a typical 12 hour shift.  Additional batteries can also be installed if extra power is needed, such as when a laser printer is to be used which requires more power than a direct thermal printer.  A battery charge monitor is mounted close to the connector to indicate the charge status and the amount of power remaining and an 8 hour overnight charge is all that is required to get the UnICart ready for the next shift.

The UnICart can be fully customised to the specific requirements of its users, with add-ons such as keyboard rests, screen stands and alternative wheels; changes can even be made to the overall dimensions, the paint colour and finish.

Managing Director for UnIQue ID, Tony Rainbow, explains: The UnICart is one of our simplest, yet most popular, solutions.  We noticed that fixed position workstations are often impractically placed, and that they inconvenience workers and processes alike.   The UnICart eliminates many of the common productivity and efficiency problems caused by fixed position IT and printing equipment in warehousing, distribution and manufacturing environments.
