A shift in manufacturing and distribution arrangements for the handheld Data Matrix reader, the DataMouse Pro, has prompted code reading innovator, Absolute Vision Ltd, to slash its worldwide price on the product, confident of increased sales driven via its new website.

The price of the small but powerful DataMouse Pro has been almost halved from 1495 to 795 in the United Kingdom (Euros 1195), from 1st November 2006.  The price drop is linked directly to lower production costs and the companys ability to market internationally via a network of international distribution agreements, both direct and via parent company, Pryor Marking Technology.

Richard Laight, business development manager, said: We took a strategic decision to bring our pricing structure in the United States and Europe in line with the UK price; and at the same time we have managed to reduce manufacturing costs and we want to pass these benefits onto the consumer.

DataMouse sales have been made in the United States, Australia, Asia and Europe as well as in the UK for a variety of applications including medical and automotive.

Laight continued: The DataMouse Pro is a no frills, fully compliant Data Matrix reader that comes at a fraction of the price of others on the market.  It is highly competitive in terms of software integrity, database connectivity, lighting and reading quality and meets all required industry standards such as MIL and ATA.  In our minds it is the easiest and best way to guarantee quality and compliant traceability for your products.

Technical details

The DataMouse Pro is the latest in the range of Data Matrix readers from Absolute Vision.  It combines the benefit of totally controllable lighting with a complete exclusion of ambient light effects to deliver exceptional reading performance on the widest range of surfaces and marking technologies.

The DataMouse Pro comes complete with its Medusa software interface, which can transfer data automatically to any third party software application and provide scope for customising the data string format.  It also allows remote control of the unit via Windows, TCP/IP or RS232 communications and the transmission of data to PLCs and other process control systems.
