Leading enterprise content management (ECM) vendor partners with oil and gas specialist, Venture to extend Government compliance and efficiency expertise to the energy sector

TOWER Software, today announced its expansion into the energy sector, through a new partnership with Venture, the professional services company that specialises in the oil and gas industry. The agreement was marked with an event last week that detailed why the UK Government is leading the way in Electronic Document and Records Management (EDRM), and how the lessons it has learned can be applied to improving business efficiency, corporate governance and compliance in the energy sector.

Whilst EDRM underpins the Governments drive to be more open and responsive, it also minimises the high profile risks associated with poor information management and the lack of information sharing that have been well-publicised; the tragic failures of some public sector agencies to protect vulnerable children - Victoria Climbi, Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman, being obvious examples.

Tony Sumpster, Managing Director at TOWER Software EMEA explains, Through the implementation of innovative electronic documents and records management, Government agencies have been able to achieve improved accountability, compliance and security.  This has resulted in reduced risk and legal exposure, improved safety and reduced costs to the tax payer. The energy sector - including oil, gas, and utilities - has seen several major incidents over the past year with the loss of life, assets, and reputation, costing the industry billions of pounds.  EDRM can help to mitigate these risks.

The recent launch event was headlined by Don Burt, MBE. A well-known and well-respected member of the records management (RM) community Don has over 11 years international experience. Before embarking on a new role as an independent records consultant he was the Electronic Records Management Advisor at the Department for Constitutional Affairs, where he was responsible for initiating and executing the implementation of an EDRM system across a geographically-dispersed user population of over 2,000.

Len Bullock, Chief Operating Officer, at Venture adds, For both private and regulated energy companies, the information challenges are daunting - huge volumes of disparate and geographically dispersed information, some of which must be retained for many years. Board members recognise that good record keeping is not just a back office operation to keep auditors and regulators at bay. It is integral with best business practice in all industry sectors. The new partnership with TOWER Software will enable some of the energy sectors leading organisations to realise the efficiencies and savings that TRIM Context has to offer.

TRIM Context is an enterprise-wide EDRM solution, capable of managing the full spectrum of corporate information: from electronic documents under development, through active documents in regular corporate use, to archived electronic and paper records. It enables efficient management of an organisations corporate information, and combines the following elements in a single, off-the-shelf solution: document management, records management, email management, image management, web content management, collaboration and workflow.
