Intellident have announce that Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd (HUM), based in Swindon, have awarded Intellident with the contract to supply, implement and manage a full end-to-end deployment of an UHF EPC Gen2 RFID track and trace solution running on the Intellident Vision software platform.
In the first mass automotive application of its kind in the world, HUM will track each of its 250,000 plastic containers and 100,000 metal cages (stillages) using a unique tag designed by Intellident, which has been specifically engineered to meet the demands of high speed, high volume transactions in a predominantly metal environment.
HUMs supplier base, located primarily throughout the UK and mainland Europe, will receive a combination of despatch control fixed-position VisionGate RFID portals and hand-held programmable terminals. Upon departure from the supplier, information relating to the despatched assets is sent to HUM via the Vision software platform, providing a complete mandate of what items left and from what location.
Upon arrival at the HUM plant, and distribution centre, each unique plastic asset and stillage is automatically read as it enters the facility using fixed-position VisionGate portals on each of the 121 dock-doors, with information then passed to the HUM receipt system. In addition, live data can be retrieved at any time using a secure centrally hosted system.
Phillip Sykes, Director of Supply Chain Operations for Intellident said: We are delighted to be working with a Company such as HUM. The benefits in complete asset visibility and automated despatch and receipt will allow HUM to operate one of the most efficient supply chains in the world, and we are confident that they will set the benchmark for future RFID operations across a range of industries.
Installation of equipment across supplier and manufacturing sites is already underway, with all site installations across Europe on schedule following a very challenging implementation plan.
