Acrovision, the Direct Part Mark (DPM) Identification specialist, have announced a new range of DPM Readers and Mobile Computer devices, set to challenge the price - performance characteristics of current offerings.

Manufactured by Symbol Technologies and supplied exclusively in the UK by Acrovision, the new range offers handheld reading capabilities at half the price of conventional readers, breaking the cost barrier that has prevented many organisations and industries from implementing DPM technology to date.  All the products combine cost effectiveness with the performance and robustness essential for demanding applications in industries such as aerospace, automotive, electronics and medical instruments.

The new product range includes the DS3408DP handheld scanner with direct USB, RS232 or Keyboard wedge connection to the host.  The DS3478DP allows freedom to roam, with its class 2 Bluetooth technology enabling remote scanning distances of up to 100 meters from the base station, whilst the MC9000DP is a true Windows CE programmable mobile computer with 802.11 Wireless LAN capabilities enabling you to take the computer to the component rather than the component to the computer!

All units have a powerful digital imager and lighting combination capable of reading most laser-etched, dot-peened, ink-jet and chemical-etched codes.  Both scanners have a rating of IP65 and are drop tested to 2 metres on concrete; the MC9000 is protected to IP64 and drop tested to 1.8m.

Paul Cunningham of Acrovision comments: DPM technology offers many benefits including true Cradle to Grave traceability.  With many leading companies laying down specific regulations and requirements for their suppliers to directly mark items, the launch of this product range is ideally timed.
