Sharp UK has announced the addition of three new models to its award-winning* MX range of multi-function printers.
The MX-5500N, MX-6200N and MX-7000N build on the existing range by providing even faster, full colour and mono output and an outstanding range of features for superior quality and productivity in the business environment.
All three models offer 41ppm printing for colour output, with mono speeds ranging from 55ppm (MX-5500N) to 62ppm (MX-6200N) and attaining a maximum of 70ppm on the flagship MX-7000N. Sophisticated network printing functions provide full control over high volume workloads, supported by increased paper capacity and high-yield twin black toner cartridges to keep productivity levels high.
Tom Primett, senior product manager, Sharp, said, Research has shown that colour documents create a more professional impression, can reduce instances of misinterpretation of data, and greatly improve the effectiveness and speed at which key messages are absorbed. With colour playing such a key role in todays business environment, new generation products such as the MX range with tandem technology allow businesses to capitalise on these benefits, by enabling high speed colour productivity at a similar level to mono machines.
Primett added, The introduction of three new models in our MX range really strengthens our offering to our customers, providing a wide range of options for fast, in-house colour printing and solutions to suit a wide range of individual business needs.
Fast, flexible network printing and copying
With network printing as standard on all three models, professional documents are realised quickly and efficiently. Functions such as the Network Tandem Function can double output speed by sharing workload across two machines, while PFD/TIFF/JPEG direct print saves time further by allowing files to be printed directly from an FTP server, web page or email attachment without the use of the printer driver.
USB memory direct printing adds further convenience, by printing direct from a USB memory device without the need to access a PC, and for large print volumes with multi-page documents, proof printing ensures that a trial set can be checked prior to initiating the job. Filing space and paper costs are reduced courtesy of the stackless duplex module, and paper jams are minimised through the incorporation of a full-grip short vertical paper path.
Colour and mono copies are handled with ease, thanks to a 150-sheet Duplex Single Pass Feeder which scans even double-sided documents in one pass. Auto Colour Selection ensures that copies match colour or mono originals, while mixed document sizes are distinguished automatically and allocated the appropriate paper. First copy out time is a rapid 8.4 seconds for colour and 4.0 seconds for mono (4.5 seconds on MX-6200N and MX-5500N).
High volume workloads are supported by a large maximum paper capacity of 6,600 sheets, (including a 3,500 sheet A4 tray or optional 3,000 sheet A3 tray), and high yield black toner cartridges which can be quickly and conveniently replaced even while jobs are in progress. Superior print quality is assured courtesy of a newly developed oil-free toner which clearly reproduces small characters, thin lines and halftone colours and produces vivid, natural looking output. Sophisticated document finishing is achieved through a variety of optional finishing peripherals capable of multi-position stapling, saddle stitch booklet finishing and hole-punching, including an inserter for attaching pre-printed covers or inserts of up to 256gsm.
Effortless colour scanning and distribution
Full colour network scanning of TIFF, PDF, encrypted PDF and JPEG (colour only) file formats can be carried out to a variety of locations, including desktop, email, FTP server, network folders or USB memory device. The incorporation of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol allows easy browsing and storing of email addresses for rapid distribution of scanned documents, and automatic synchronisation with the primary email server. By selecting relevant functions, incoming faxes can be handled efficiently, printing only those that are required and allowing printing onto two-sided paper. Automated fax finishing functions (eg. copying and stapling) can also be selected, along with an A3 fax option.
Secure document filing
Managing documents is made easy thanks to an integrated 80GB hard disk. Up to 1400 pages or 1000 files of data can be temporarily filed in Quick File Folders and retrieved for later use, while more advanced, long term storage allows up to 4,200 pages or 3,000 files to be saved in up to 500 folders. Main folders allow files to be stored centrally for convenient access and workgroup sharing, while confidential files can be stored in password protected custom folders. Further security can be provided via the optional Data Security Kit, which encrypts all hard disk data, effectively protecting it from unauthorised access. All stored files can be accessed easily via the control panel display or a web browser.
Advanced software for increased productivity
Managing documents in over 200 file formats is easy with Sharps original PC desktop document management software, Sharpdesk. Integrating scanned paper based documents or files created in applications such as Word is easy, while organising, editing, searching and distributing documents can be done using a simple drag-and-drop operation.
Managing the printer network is also made easier through software such as Printer Administration Utility, which allows administrators to customise items and view settings directly from their PC through a standard web browser. The Printer Status Monitor also enables remote desktop checking of the printer status including progress of print jobs and status of paper or toner supplies, while the Job Status Screen effectively allows the progress of jobs to be monitored at a glance.
State-of-the-art Network Security
Data and network security is assured, thanks to a multi-layered package of advanced security functions designed to protect confidential data or prevent unauthorised access. A key safeguard is the optional Data Security Kit (DSK), which automatically encrypts and erases data after each job is completed, as well as data stored on the hard disk and address book. Furthermore, the Document Control function present in the DSK allows copy prevention data to be embedded onto a document when it is first copied or printed, resulting in the cancellation of any unauthorised future attempts to copy it.
Additional integrated security features include User Authentication, which requires a password for machine access and IP/MAC address filtering for preventing direct access by unauthorised users. Secure Socket Layer prevents data leakage through the network, while Confidential Data Storage and Printing will ensure that documents are produced only on presentation of a PIN code. Finally, Encrypted PDF with Password Protection prevents any unauthorised viewing of confidential image data.
The existing range of Sharp MX multi-function printers the MX-2300N, MX-2700N, MX-3501N and MX-4501N were awarded BERTL Five Star Exceptional Awards and BERTL Best Awards in early 2006. The MX-2300N, MX-2700N and MX-3501N have also received Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI) 2006 Pick of the Year and Highly Recommended Awards.
