Two companies that make up part of the asset management giant LINPAC Group have joined forces to offer the materials handling industry the latest in asset tracking packaging systems.

Intellident, Europes leading supplier of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, is incorporating its technology into a range of multi-trip crate systems available from Linpac Materials Handling (LMH).

The end result means that Intellidents FastClick RFID tags can now be incorporated into the full range of LMHs Returnable Transit Packaging (RTP) products. The tags can be fitted to new or existing products from LMHs family of foldable and fixed plastic crates, and its range of in-store bulk display units. This allows customers to further streamline their tracking and product management operations, while there is a particular advantage to fitting FastClick tags to new RTP products as it allows users to more specifically tailor packaging to fit their existing tracking and monitoring systems.

Laurence Tanty, managing director of LMH, said the new arrangement offered customers greater reassurance as both the packaging system and the RFID technology were from the same group:

LINPAC is the first company worldwide to offer integrated RFID packaging and supply chain solutions, commented Tanty. Customers also have complete assurance that the RFID tag has been optimised for both the asset and the application, and that it will operate for the life of the product. With the experience and industry-leading technology that Intellident offers the group, our customers can feel confident that their LINPAC assets are completely future-proofed.

The relationship between LINPAC and Intellident dates back many years but cooperation between the two took a further step forward in October 2005 when Intellident became a wholly-owned company within the 1.2 billion LINPAC Group. Since then the two companies have worked closely together to develop joint technologies and the RFID/RTP initiative is the first ready-to-market product to result from that closer cooperation.

Jim Hopwood, managing director of Intellident, said there were plans to extend the use of Intellident technologies to other products in the Linpac Materials Handling portfolio and that customers would benefit from having both the RFID and packaging supplier working together within the same group:

For several years Intellident has specialised in the retrofitting of existing assets with RFID tags, and has built up a wealth of experience in this area. Being part of LINPAC Group, we are now able to share these skills with the design teams in sister companies to produce products that are optimised and ready for RFID supply chains.

The RTP products from Linpac Materials Handling have been designed from the ground-up to accommodate Intellidents unique snap-in packaged FastClick tags that can be applied at the point of manufacture or retrofitted to existing assets in the field. FastClick tags are available in a range of frequencies, including HF and the latest Gen2 UHF products, yet are all provided in the same form factor, allowing the most appropriate to be selected, depending on application.
