BT launches a quick and easy way of identifying products for targeted recalls
BT Auto-ID Services today announced the launch of BT Foodnet, a new Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) real-time tracking solution which is designed to speed-up and reduce the cost of recalling products for food retailers. BT Foodnet provides a full audit trail of ingredients along the supply chain and also offers vastly simplified compliance for traceable legislation.
The BT Foodnet service combines the latest RFID technology with BT Auto-IDs collaborative data exchange platform. Using the power of the digital network to deliver fast, accurate and automated information capture, for transfer to fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) retailers.
Ross Hall, CEO, BT Auto-ID Services, said: Retailers have been asking for a quick and easy way of identifying products for recall. Until now, in the event of a problem, all products that might be affected, rather than those that definitely are, have typically been recalled. This results in unnecessarily high losses for the retailer. BT has combined its expertise in auto-ID technology with its retail sector expertise, its secure digital network and IT infrastructure to address this problem, freeing up valuable man-hours for more value-add functions.
In the event of a food scare, the accessible data trail enables accurate and rapid recall of corresponding products. When the retailer places its order via BT Foodnet the food manufacturer enters the key product information onto an RFID tag and the margin for error is all but eradicated.
