According to IDC last year investment in the storage market increased by over 10 per cent and capacity in terabytes grew by more than 50 per cent. IDC also predicts that the small to medium sized businesses will be more active in investing in storage technology over the next 12 months. A key survey found that although SMBs will continue to rely on internal disks to meet their storage needs for the short term, medium sized firms will increase their storage area network capacity overall in the coming year. As well as expanding storage capacity, another priority highlighted for small businesses is enhancing disaster recovery. The survey also found that small businesses devote the largest share of their disk storage to email and digital content whilst the priority for medium sized businesses is back up and recovery as well as data intensive applications.
