Sharp has announced the MX-3501N and MX-4501N, further strengthening its MX range of digital, full colour multifunctional printers.

Both models boast the advanced colour, networking, security and environmental features synonymous with the MX range, while delivering enhanced colour and mono output speeds of 35ppm for copying and printing (45ppm mono on MX-4501N) and powerful additional network printing solutions via an optional Fiery Controller.

The MX-3501N and MX-4501N build on the outstanding mix of features present on our current MX models, but offer enhancements designed to address the needs of customers demanding even greater productivity and performance, said Tom Primett, Marketing Manager, Sharp. With four models now in the range, our customers can be assured of the quality and performance credentials of all the models in the MX range, and select the product to suit their individual needs.

High performance print, copy, scan and fax
The standard network printing present on both the MX-3501N and MX-4501N is supported by an abundance of additional features, including direct printing from USB memory devices, network tandem printing for doubling output speed, proof printing and direct print, allowing files to be printed directly from an FTP server, web page or email attachment.   The addition of an optional MX-PEX1 Fiery Print Controller, however, takes the already advanced printing capabilities of both models to a whole new level, streamlining productivity and providing powerful tools for managing and manipulating workflow.

Features such as Command Workstation enable centralised management of multiple fiery print controllers, while print jobs can be monitored and managed through a web browser on a PC using WebTools.  Colour management features such as ColorWise and ColorWise ProTools ensure consistent and accurate colour output, and advanced calibration and profile management for precise control of colour quality.  Other features include Fiery FreeForm for fast variable data printing, RIP-While-Print for increasing throughput on multi-page documents and Continuous Print which stores processed pages in the memory before printing.   Users can also benefit from additional optional fiery software for specialised applications, such as a dedicated tool set for graphic arts professionals.

A variety of copy modes will ensure productivity and quality demands are satisfied, including automatic recognition of mixed size documents, auto colour selection mode and enhanced Sharp auto colour mode for even clearer text reproduction.  Additional features include a quick first copy time of only 6.9 seconds for colour and 4.1 seconds for mono copies (MX-4501N - 4.7 seconds for MX3501N) and a 5,600 sheet paper capacity.

Both models feature full colour network scanning as standard, and offer compatibility with TWAIN-compliant applications.  Mixed batches of documents are scanned easily thanks to the standard 150-sheet duplex single pass feeder, and can be sent to selected destinations including PC desktop, FTP server, USB memory device, email, network folder or fax.  A range of features makes light work of fax management, allowing incoming faxes to be checked via email for selected printing or automatically copied and stapled using Automated Fax Finishing.  Using the PC-Fax/Internet Fax feature, outgoing faxes can be sent directly from PC to fax without the need for printing.

An integrated 80GB hard disk on both models gives even greater flexibility for document storage, using the standard Document Filing function. Up to 1000 files of processed copy, print, scan and fax data can be stored temporarily in Quick File folders, while for more long term storage requirements, up to 3,000 files of data can be stored in main or password protected custom folders.  Stored documents are easily and conveniently accessed from the control panel display or through a web browser.

Automated finishing is achieved via optional internal and external finishers, capable of sorting and stapling, and in the case of the external finisher providing additional professional finishes such as saddle stitch booklet finishing and hole-punching.

Cost and security control
Network administrators can implement powerful control over cost and security management, thanks to a range of sophisticated features that can be tailored to individual needs.  Complete device control can be achieved through the creation of authority groups, while the use of ID and/or password allows access to be limited to specifically approved individuals, groups or departments.  Network authentication allows ID, password and email address to be authenticated prior to access, which can be linked directly to accounting for cost monitoring purposes.  Protection against unauthorised access is achieved through the Secure Network Card, while Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology encrypts data packets to ensure secure communication around the network.  An optional Data Security Kit (DSK) safeguards information stored on the hard disk or internal memory of the MFP by automatically encrypting or erasing the data after each job is completed.

Cost management is also assisted through the development of a significantly smaller and more efficient toner cartridge.  High quality, full colour imaging is achieved with reduced toner consumption, while the new toner technology ensures a mono cost per print that is equivalent to that of conventional mono devices.  The development of a new long life OPC Drum and the incorporation of power consumption control modes also contribute towards cost management, with all these features demonstrating improved environmental responsibility.

Powerful Utility Software
Courtesy of Sharps award winning original document software SharpDesk, organising, editing, searching and distributing documents can be done with ease from the users desktop, and allows management of documents in over 200 file formats.  Furthermore, features such as Printer Status Monitor enable remote desktop checking of the printer status, including progress and completion of print jobs.  Managing printer networks is also made easy through the Printer Administration Software, which allows network administrators to customise monitored items, and view settings directly from their PC.

Delivering the MX Promise
The MX-3501N and MX-4501N deliver the MX promise, providing a plethora of sophisticated printing, networking and security features now synonymous with the range, while demonstrating the capacity for even faster output speeds, increased hard-disk capacity and enhanced workflow management courtesy of the optional Fiery Print Controller.   This powerful combination will ensure that the promise of high productivity and effective, professional communications is delivered time and time again.

The MX-3501N priced from 15,395 ex VAT and the MX-4501N priced from 16,395 ex VAT will be available from the end of February 2006 from Sharp accredited outlets.
