Adaptec Launches major New Release of its Award-winning nas operating system

GuardianOS v4.0 Delivers Unicode Support, Enhanced Antivirus Software, Integrated Virtual Tape Library and Easier-to-use Graphical Interface

Adaptec, a global leader in storage solutions, today announced version 4.0 of its award-winning, Linux-based GuardianOS operating system that comes as standard on its Snap Server 18000, the Snap Server 4500 and the Snap Server 4200 network attached storage (NAS) solutions.

GuardianOS is a unified software platform that combines cross-platform file sharing with block-level data access on a single network storage device to provide a simple and flexible data storage solution ideal for departments, remote offices, and small/medium distributed enterprises worldwide.

Notable new features include an easier-to-use graphical user interface and Unicode support. Unicode delivers a universal architecture for multiple languages, ensuring that stored corporate data from Europe and Asia-Pacific countries is easily accessible and protected worldwide. 

Existing Snap Server customers with a previous release of the GuardianOS can upgrade to the 4.0 version for of 599 which includes a one-year Adaptec Trusted Services contract (Bronze Service, 7x24 technical support). For more information, go to www.adaptec.com.

The latest version of GuardianOS also features upgraded software applications including the latest release of Computer Associates eTrust antivirus and BakBones NetVault backup software, complete with a 500GB virtual tape library (VTL) license at no additional charge. VTL support enables customers to deploy disk-to-disk or disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) backup strategies that provide the time, performance and easy recovery benefits of disk-based backup that can be combined with the long term cost-effectiveness of archival tape.

The GuardianOS has helped to earn Adaptec Snap Servers over 25 independent product awards. Additional new features and benefits of the GuardianOS v4.0 include:

 Graphical RAID representation for easier configuration and management

 Windows to UNIX mapping of security, user and group identifiers

 Improved share creation and share security

Updates to BakBone NetVault backup and Computer Associates eTrust antivirus embedded applications

 Support for Network Time Protocol (NTP) enables Snap Servers to synchronize with an external time source

 Improved quota management for easier maintenance. Default quotas can be automatically updated for all users on-demand

Enhanced cross-platform support and the ability to track users connected via CIFS, AFP, FTP or SSH. Also increased support for Apple Macintosh File Protocol (AFP v3.1) for file sizes greater than 2GB and long file names

 A 45-day free trial CD of Snap Enterprise Data Replicator (Snap EDR) software for easy remote replication, distribution, and aggregation of distributed data
