New LANsurveyor 9.5 Adds Network Asset Database Repository and Detailed Switch-to-Switch Connection Diagrams

Neon Software, Inc. announced today the immediate availability of LANsurveyor version 9.5 for Windows. Network administrators utilize LANsurveyor 9.5 to efficiently safeguard and monitor their networks by incorporating network documentation, asset management, network monitoring, and vulnerability management capabilities.

LANsurveyor 9.5 expands its award-winning feature set to include better network diagrams, new discovery methods, improved Microsoft Office Visio exports, support for Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer 2.0, and new Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) support. Customers can now create more complete and accurate network inventories, therefore reducing errors and making strict audits easier to pass.

"Neons new release improves upon LANsurveyors already accurate mapping, and the information LANsurveyor provides is invaluable for our network security," said Eric Lessor, Network Administrator, TLC Federal Credit Union. "LANsurveyor 9.5 is the best program I've found to document and help secure my network. It paid for itself the first time it automatically drew a complete network diagram."

Regulatory acts and guidelines, including Gramm-Leach Bliley, HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and Basel II, require organizations to restrict access to confidential information and/or enforce security policies across entire organizations. Customers use LANsurveyor to first identify what is on their network and then safeguard and monitor the network.

"Complying with regulations has become a big worry in IT departmentsLANsurveyor makes it much easier to comply with those requirements," said Mark Nelson, IS network technician at InCyte Pathology.

Select New Features in LANsurveyor 9.5

* New Repository streamlines easy, up-to-date asset reports
LANsurveyor now supports a Repository to collect information on a regular basis from workstations and servers running the optional Neon Responder client software and store the data in a database. LANsurveyor uses either Microsoft SQL Database Engine (MSDE) or Microsoft SQL Server (either locally or across the network). LANsurveyor uses Repository data to create asset data reports (Custom Reports, Software Inventory Reports, etc.) for nodes, even if they are offline.

* New Network Discovery Methods tackle complicated networks
LANsurveyor now uses CDP (Cisco Discovery Protocol) and LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) to provide more information about discovered nodes and features new switch-to-switch algorithms that dramatically improve discovery of complicated networks.

* Visio Export Enhancements Improve Flexibility
New Microsoft Office Visio exports include a customized logo, titles, and a legend.

* Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) 2.0 Support
MBSA is a free utility available from Microsoft to detect common security misconfigurations and missing security updates on networked computer systems. LANsurveyor 9.5 supports both MBSA 2.0 and 1.3.

* Neon Responders Enhanced
The optional Neon Responder client software supports the new LANsurveyor Repository. In addition, the scope and accuracy of Software Asset reports are greatly enhanced.
