Canon UK appoints David Smith as Marketing Director for business solutions

Canon UK, leader in digital imaging technology, today announced the appointment of former Hewlett Packard Head of Commercial Marketing, David Smith, as its new CBS (Canon Business Solutions) Marketing Director.

Smith, who will officially take up his new position on November 7th, joins Canon following seven years at HP, where he was responsible for the marketing and communications of HPs entire product and solutions portfolio to all its business customers.

At Canon UK, Smith will be responsible for heading up CBS marketing activities for direct and indirect routes to market. He will be responsible for helping to lead Canons provision of market leading business solutions and ensuring that the company continues to deliver on its objective of being number one in key business areas through the remainder of 2005 and beyond.

Smiths experience at HP includes extensive work with customer interest groups such as the Institute of Directors, as well as with business, technical and sales channel partners. Previous roles in the organisation have included a four-year stint managing HPs SMB business, senior marketing positions in channel management and imaging & printing products, as well as an early brief to develop HPs emerging technology in the UK.

Before joining HP, Smith was a board director of a software communications company with particular focus on document management, network fax and workflow solutions.
