Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ/NM: AVCT) today announced the installation of its latest DSView 3 Management Software at the Microsoft Technology Centre (MTC) in Thames Valley Park.
Microsoft's Technology Centres showcase the latest vendor technologies to business customers. Staff will be using Avocent's DSView 3.0 software for improved remote management and security controls. Avocent's software is the first to provide network administrators secure browser-based control of servers, serial devices, DSUs and IPMI servers attached to any DS Series appliance.
"With multiple projects in progress at any one time, the ability to securely manage any changes over the web is an invaluable tool for us," says Lars Lindstedt manager of the MTC in Reading. "Security is of paramount importance to our customers, however we need to ensure this does not obscure the ease of use that they want their systems to provide. Avocent's DSView software manages this issue well as it provides the ability to centrally control end-user access rights, but still manages to retain the simplicity of access that the user demands."
The MTC has the capability to control server access at four levels: network protocol, Active Directory, firewall and browser, providing both defence-in-depth as well as the flexibility to meet the varied demands of the many customers and partners that use the facility.

By providing remote access via a web interface, administrators save time in areas such as troubleshooting, routine maintenance and deployment."
The Reading MTC provides almost 350 Strategy Briefings, Architecture Design Sessions (ADS) and Proof of Concept (POC) engagements to enterprise customers and ISVs every year, enabling them to adopt new Microsoft technologies and create workable customised solutions that meet their core business requirements.
Avocent's DSView 3 software and DS Series system reduce down time and provide rapid disaster recovery while providing better overall management capabilities to administrators. From a single terminal, Administrators can navigate between devices and configure, manage, upgrade and backup any device in the data centre.
