Getting in to the spirit of things

Leading industrial computer manufacturer Captec teamed up with a software developer to supply one of the largest managed public house companies in the UK with a web-based back office, management and Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) system.

The Captec supplied solution enabled the hospitality group to network its EPOS equipment, cash tills, printers, displays and credit card readers, and interface to its back office software suite of wet and dry stock control, ordering, cash control, payroll and MIS reporting.

To meet the networking and connectivity requirements of the hospitality group, Captec supplied over 1400 N-Port Serial-to-Ethernet Device Servers, which allow up to 16 serial devices to communicate via a local area network and within a web-based application.

The cost-effective solution was customised to provide key security features and compatibility with the organisations IP numbering system. To further simplify the connectivity of hardware to the 16 channel N-Ports, Captec also designed and supplied 2800 customised cabling systems and PCBs.

The project is to be extended to develop interfaces with the hospitality groups' central systems, and to be used to harness the competitive advantage that the web based systems deliver by linking to existing and future POS capabilities.

In choosing the Captec supplied solution, the hospitality group recognised that innovative technology and applications assist in promoting operational efficiency and bottom line improvements. And with this technology, and software, the hospitality group now believe they have total control over every operational detail of their entertainment business.
