Relyon uses MailDefender to protect the company against the almost 3000 spam e-mails it receives on daily basis

Relyon Group, manufacturer of high quality beds and bedding, employs about 800 people in the South West of the UK. Three years ago, with the increase in Internet use for sales, customer support and particularly e-mail, the company experienced an increasing amount of e-mail viruses. Relyon realised that its desktop-based anti-virus security wasnt 100% effective any more because the company was struggling to get its desktops updated quickly after a new virus was announced. Relyons network administrator, Robert Nash, wanted to take a proactive approach to security and adopt an anti-virus solution that could target viruses at the Internet level. The company chose intYs MailDefender, a managed e-mail security service, as a complete defence against virus infected e-mail.

In 2005 the company noticed the levels of spam it was receiving were rising. On a typical working day Relyon would receive approximately 3900 e-mails with 2900 of them spam and only 1000 being legitimate e-mails. Aside from the nuisance of having to delete them manually, the company was concerned about its employees being exposed to offensive content in the spam. In May this year the Relyon Group also started using MailDefenders Internet level anti-spam filter.

Overall, the 275 employees using MailDefender are very pleased with the results. Spam and viruses no longer reach employee inboxes at all, leaving them free to get on with their work. In addition, both employees and the IT team have benefited from the ease of deployment and management of MailDefender. Relyon only has a small IT team of six people so having this level of protection as a managed service has made life a lot easier for the team and allowed them to concentrate on more pressing IT issues. Three out of four e-mails Relyon receives are spam, commented Robert Nash, network administrator at Relyon. In a company like ours, with a small IT department, a managed service is indispensable as it gives us the level of protection we need against viruses and spam without all the hassle.
