SonicWALL Integrates High Speed Threat Protection and Flexible Connectivity in Powerful, Scalable Platform

SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNWL), the global leader in Unified Threat Management (UTM) security appliances according to IDC*, today extended its latest-generation PRO Series appliances with the introduction of the PRO 4100.  This new appliance is a 10 port, all-gigabit UTM firewall that delivers high-speed internal and external network protection, enabling reduced deployment time, automated ongoing operations and enhanced network reliability.  Based on a dynamically updateable platform, the PRO 4100 incorporates multiple advanced networking, security and configuration features in an integrated appliance that reduces complexity and management overhead for corporate central sites, distributed environments and data centers. Todays announcement allows us to provide comprehensive, trusted network security protection at gigabit speeds to mid-sized and enterprise level networks, said Mike Smart, director of European product marketing. The inclusion of enterprise-class Quality of Service (QoS) functionality is especially important for emerging applications such as Voice over IP.

The new device integrates high-speed gateway anti-virus, anti-spyware, intrusion prevention, anti-spam, anti-phishing, Clean VPN and content filtering on a single platform.  SonicWALLs Clean VPN architecture decontaminates mobile user connections and branch office traffic to prevent vulnerabilities and malicious code from being propagated.

With 10 configurable gigabit Ethernet interfaces and built-in secure wireless LAN functionality, the PRO 4100 is an ideal solution for a host of wired and wireless applications requiring high-speed access and workgroup segmentation.  Robust trusted network protection is achieved across all Ethernet ports, virtual LANs and connected wireless LANs to eliminate threats originating inside corporate networks, between networked departments or data center zones.

To extend flexibility and performance throughout the network, the PRO 4100 also supports virtual local area networks (VLANs), enterprise class-routing and QoS features as standard offerings. The dynamically updatable architecture provides around-the-clock security updates without administrator intervention.

Network threats today are more likely to originate from the internal network than from external sources, said Patrick Sweeney, senior director of product management at SonicWALL.  The PRO 4100 is designed to meet growing user demand for dynamic, multi-function security delivered upon a single integrated platform that will protect against threats within and outside the network, and across distributed, highly-complex architecture as well.

In addition to security and performance optimizations, the PRO 4100 ships with powerful SonicWALL SonicOS Enhanced firmware, enabling business continuity and flexibility features including onboard Quality of Service (QoS) features, advanced routing services, ISP failover, WAN redundancy, zone management and more. With SonicOS Enhanced, the ports are customizable as a second LAN, a second WAN, a DMZ, another customized network zone, or a hardware failover port for continuous network uptime.  SonicOS Enhanced also features standards-based Voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities, facilitating and prioritizing voice and multimedia connections transmitted over wired, VPN and wireless IP-based networks.
